Sale of Chametz

Before Pesach, it is a requirement to eliminate all chametz (bread products or derivatives of bread products) from our possession. Jewish law allows for chametz, especially and preferably, only in non-bread-like form (e.g. liquors, mixtures, etc.) to be sold to a gentile in those circumstances when elimination is not an option. Arrangements for such sale may be made through Rabbi Shmuel Herzfeld and Maharat Ruth Balinsky Friedman using this form. It must be received by Wednesday, April 17.

Rabbi Herzfeld and Maharat Friedman do not accept personal monetary gifts for this service, which they view as a privilege to perform. They do, however, welcome contributions to the synagogue, which will be used to fund the synagogue’s free communal Pesach Seder and our Pesach outreach programs. This is a service we offer to the community and we very much need your help to support it.

Additionally, it is a mitzvah to help those less fortunate observe the holiday of Pesach. This is called Maot Chittim. If you would like, Rabbi Herzfeld and Maharat Friedman can distribute such money on your behalf to the poor. Please mark your donation accordingly.

Please use the online form found below or download our paper form.
